2013 Picnic At Salt Springs State Park

SIGN

Folks we had an awesome time at our annual picnic at Salt Springs State Park. After a very nice lunch, which consisted of hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, and many side dishes, we enjoyed a time of talking and fellow-shipping. It was fun meeting new folks as well as old friends from years gone by.

Our main speakers this year were Angie Colarusso and Shane Kliner from Second Chance Wildlife Center. These folks brought along a number of animals they have rescued. These animals are brought in due to being hit by cars, loss of parents, or just plain non understanding people who should have left them in the wild.

The Second Chance Center is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of the wild mammals of Pennsylvania. They have been in operation since 1990 and they take care of, rehabilitate, and release, many different animals each year. They are licensed by the PA Game Commission and certified to accept and care for PA’s rabies vector species such as skunks, raccoons, bats, woodchucks, coyotes, and fox. They also can accept threatened and endangered species as well. They are a mammals only center and are not licensed to care for birds.

We had a great time with them and we learned many tips on the care of PAs wildlife. So if you ever run across a wild animal that was injured be sure to give them a call right away. The longer you wait the less chance the animal has of making it to adulthood.

Be sure to check out the pictures from this year’s picnic in our photo album.
